Although Samson is often portrayed as a hero, a close reading of his story shows that he is not. He was flawed and lived on the edge, reacting to others from places of emotion, anger, and revenge. As a deliverer, he only "began" to do what God needed him to do (13:5).
For these reasons, he foreshadows our perfect savior, Jesus, who lived a sinless, perfect life and offered himself as a sacrifice to deliver us. Look past Samson to the cross and resurrection, and keep your eyes on Jesus.
