In this lesson I provide four reasons from the New Testament for why we should be baptized: 1) To follow the example of Jesus; 2) To receive the Holy Spirit, the guarantee of our inheritance; 3) To re-enact the gospel; 4) To put on a new life.
As we close the Philippians series, we are reminded to live our lives in total trust before the Lord.
Paul encourages them to follow his example, which grounds them in faithful trust in the Lord.
Jesus calls us to shift our confidence away from fleeting things to being found in him.
Finding joy in Jesus can be hard work. We have to commit to finding joy in growing into the work of God, and in doing the work of God. Our priorities must shift to take on the perspectives of God.
We are to have the mind of Christ in our relationships with one another.
Joy is found when we focus on the stability we have in Jesus, rather than in momentary, fleeting things. Joy orients us around an eternal perspective. From Philippians 1.
After the resurrection, the women who visited the tomb, the guards who were at the tomb, and the disciples all experienced fear and doubt, but the women and the disciples obeyed and worshiped Jesus, and in that they met Jesus and continued to obey. They are an example for us.
God brings life where we see death so that we will trust him more.
